It's time to celebrate our #furryfriends here at IMM as we reflect on National Pet Month. Our loyal companions not only become one of the family and a source of comfort but also offer amazing therapeutic and health benefits.Pets are natural mood boosters - whether it's a wagging tail or the sound of purring, their presence can significantly reduce stress and anxiety levels. Petting or playing with a pet can lower levels of cortisol, a stress hormone, and instead trigger the release of endorphins, the body's natural stress relievers.Owning a pet encourages physical activity, which can lower blood pressure, cholesterol, and even decrease the risk of heart disease, while also fostering social interaction. That daily walk with your dog isn't just good for them; it's beneficial for you too! They facilitate social interaction and communication among individuals, serving as the perfect icebreaker in social settings. Whether you're playing fetch at the park or chatting with fellow pet owners, they help keep us active and connected to the world around us.Our pets provide comfort and unconditional love on those tough days, reducing feelings of loneliness and depression. Developing that bond fosters a sense of companionship, trust and security, in essence playing a valuable role in promoting holistic wellbeing and improvement to our quality of life.#NationalPetMonth #TherepeuticBenefits #Animal #TherapyAnimals #Wellbeing

Whether it's going for a brisk walk with your dog or playing a game of fetch, pets inspire us to stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Plus, regular exercise with our furry companions can improve cardiovascular health, lower blood pressure, and boost overall fitness levels.• Emotional Support: Pets are exceptional listeners and provide unwavering emotional support during both the good times and the challenging ones. Did you know that pets can be good for our psychological wellbeing? As today is National Love your Pet Day and in continuation with my heart health theme this week, I thought it would be interesting to investigate why and how pets can have a positive impact on our wellbeing. Many of us will have experienced the strong bond between yourself and a pet and the pleasure that pets give to many. The science isn’t exact as to why this is, but there appears to be a number of factors at play:🌳 A link to natureWe have an inherent desire to interact and engage with nature - known as biophilia - pets provide an accessible way for us to connect in this way.😻 Physical affectionThe simple act of stroking a pet can have an incredibly calming influence on us and helps to boost our mood and to ground us.🐾 Reduces lonelinessPets provide us with company and emotional support, helping us to feel less isolated and more connected.🐶 Encourages exerciseResearch has shown that dog walkers for example, spend an average of 300 minutes walking each week - three times as much as non-dog owners.🐴 Boost our social networkCertain pets - such as horses for example - create an additional network of support and an opportunity for us to engage with different groups of people.🐰 Sense of purposeCaring and being responsible for a pet can help to provide both a sense of purpose and reward.🐹 Regulate emotionsThe carefree and happy nature of our pets can help to ground us and encourage us to focus on being in the moment.#5pillarsofvitality #think #pets #mentalwellbeing #wellbeing #NationalLoveYourPetDay
